Blackthorn fruits, regardless of their form (fresh, in the form of jelly, compotes, jelly, tinctures, decoction or extract), have an astringent effect and are recommended for use in stomach and intestinal disorders, such as ulcerative colitis, dysentery, food toxicity and candidiasis.
Blackthorn wine is considered a therapeutic drink for intestinal infectious diseases.
Fresh juice from the fruit of the blackthorn is good for jaundice.
Preparations made from thorn flowers regulate intestinal motility, act as diuretics, diaphoreses and hypotensive agents. They improve metabolism and are indicated for gastritis, spastic colitis, intestinal atony, cystitis, edema, kidney stone disease, rheumatism, boils and other pustular skin diseases, as well as for inflammation of the mucous membranes of the mouth, throat and esophagus.
Blackthorn flowers are also used in homeopathy.
Tea made from blackthorn leaves has a mild laxative effect, increases urine output, improves metabolism and is used as an expectorant. It is recommended for chronic constipation, nephrolithiasis, cystitis, prostate adenoma and skin rashes.
